My thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Hey everyone, hows it going, hows it doing?

Last night I went to the mall with my mother just to browse clothes and whatnot, and I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a beautiful pearly white GOD of a phone. Excited, I hurried over to the Telstra booth and saw that it was the Samsung Galaxy S II, in white. Now, I knew that the SGS2 came in a gorgeous black, which didn’t really appeal to me, but, the white on the contrary, made me want to whip out my bank card and pay for it then and there.

Of course, I do have an iPhone 4, which I’m extremely happy with, but there are so many features about the SGS2 that make me want to pick it up. Firstly, the screen real estate. 4.3” is absolutely ginormous for a phone, which obviously allows for more room to type and browse. The Super AMOLED display looks gorgeous, even though the colors are more “neon” and “non-realistic” than the iPhone. Secondly, Android. I’ve been an iOS gal ever since the iPod Touch and the iPhone range was announced, but lately, I’ve been searching for something with widgets that I can completely customize to my liking, which the Galaxy S II has. ALSO, I dropped my phone the other day and luckily, it didn’t crack, however iPhone 4’s have the tendency to shatter after only one or two small drops. The SGS2 is different. The Gorilla Glass can make it withstand impact from head height, as seen here.

This has made me contemplate, should I get the SGS2? I know a shitload of people that have them and would rather have an iPhone. Perhaps I could swap them, who knows.

Let me know what you think?

One year on.

HI EVERYONE *arm flap*

I’ve been completely neglecting this blog and I’m excited to announce that I’ll be returning on Nov. 25 with daily (hopefully) posts about all things technology. I’ll be moving from a more casual style of posting to a professional style, with added news posts and editorials.

IN TECHNOLOGY NEWS..

Over the past year, I’ve picked up a myriad of products, most notably:

  • The coveted iPhone 4 16GB [BLACK]
  • A gorgeous Macbook Pro 13.3”

Also, I sold my iPad in January this year to make just enough money for my MacBook, which I think was a fair trade-off.  However, I’m thinking of picking up the iPad 2 THIS year as I’m travelling overseas next year, and I think the weight of the MacBook makes it fairly heavy to lug around.

Back from hibernation; more posts coming up later this year (Late Nov.)

I have no idea how I got so many followers, but thanks for sticking with me everyone.

Quick video I made up about changing your WoW Realmlist for a Mac. This is needed when connecting to Private Servers for World of Warcraft. Happy playing!

iPhone 4 ~ SAYWUUUUUT.

Due to my complete fascination, I somehow convinced my Mum to get me an iPhone 4.

So it happened when my brother, who just turned 13, kept going over his 30$ a month credit limit, as he runs prepaid. So I went and spoke to my mum and was like. “He can take my phone and my phone number and service, and I’ll get an iPhone”

To be honest, she was a bit apprehensive about it to begin with. I’m on the 29$ per month cap, and the iPhone is on the 49$ cap. So I said, I’ll pay the extra twenty per month, and when I get a job, I’ll take over paying for the whole thing.

Bottom line, she bought it.

I’m not going back to Optus, I already payed too much for what I was getting, which was terrible service, so I’m going on the 3 carrier, which my older sister is on. I’ll have a chat to her to see what the coverage is like but I assume it’ll be good as it is one of the main carriers.

So, in about late november, early December, I presume I’ll be picking up a 16GB Black iPhone 4.

- I’m over the moon.

Me and World of Warcraft.

So to anyone that plays the game World of Warcraft, you’d surely have gotten the memo that Cataclysm, the new expansion, is scheduled to hit stores worldwide 7th December.

Me and a bunch of pals are thinking of doing the whole 1-85 thing. It’ll be me, Steph, Scott, Chase and Jake. I’m guessing it’ll be mostly instances together and then when me and Dreader are online (both Australian) we’ll be questing, or so I presume.

I’m THINKING I should probably get my pre-order slip in to my local EB Games store, but I might just pick it up on the day.

I dont really won’t to roll a healing class, but in the end thats what I’ll have to do to keep everyone happy. But I don’t think I’ll like a priest, as Penance is getting its cool down doubled, thanks Blizzard. Discipline was the only tree I was good at, but now its wrecked.

So I dont know, give me suggestions?

Motorola Cliq XT.

Motorola Cliq XT / Motorola Quench Review.

Motorola Quench.

As promised, here is my review of the Motorola Cliq XT. In Australia/England, it’s called the Motorola Quench, if there was any confusion about that.

Design:
There’s not much to it, Its a candy bar phone, and draws attention to the touch-screen. There are four small hard buttons and one trackpad, now when I first took this baby out of its box, I thought the trackpad was useless, but it’s great, and I used it as my priority for navigation. The back is plastic, and has an odd squeaky noise when you press it hard, however, it’s a wonderful-to-feel texture, so I was pleased with that.

Goodies:
The thing that is going to sell this phone is the integration of MotoBlur, Motorola’s social networking “hub”. It brings ALL your feeds together via one account, and can be used to trace your phone’s location, which I thought was pretty cool. Another thing that knocks this phone above its competitors is the integration of Swype texting, which is just fantastic. Swype lets you drag your finger across the letters to make words.

Swype Demo.

Other than that, the phone is a touch screen Android device, with a focus on internet, social and being practical. In saying that, this phone is a budget phone, so don’t set your expectations to be the same level of the iPhone or Galaxy S.

Negatives:

  • TERRIBLE Camera, as in don’t even bother with it.
  • Plastic feel.
  • Heavy internet usage [even when you aren’t using the phone].

Overall:

For a cheap phone, the Motorola Cliq XT provides solid use and excellent multimedia. The music plyer is excellent. It has Android, a touch screen, MotoBlur and Swype technology, so the positives definately outweigh the negatives. If you are on a budget and still want the features of a smart-phone, I’d definately recommend taking a look at this phone.

JessCap’s rating : 7/10.

Been a while since my last update.

Just first want to apologise for my absense, school got really hectic and I’m finally on my Term 3 vacation. A review for a phone, the Motorola Cliq XT / Motorola Quench is in the process of being drafted and checked, so keep an eye out for that.

I’m about to start revision for my end of year exams, I know they’re ages away, but I figure that if I start now-ish, it’ll be less of a stressful blur towards the end of the year.

I went to the Apple Store at my local shopping center, and I played around with the Magic Trackpad, I actually really want to pick one up, but they’re 100 dollars, like, I can afford it, but my priority is the new computer.

So yeah, thats all for my little update, the phone review is coming up soon.
